Applying For Membership
Membership of the NMC is open to anyone who wants to climb. We can't take absolute beginners, but if you've been on an "introduction to climbing" course and can tie into a harness and can belay safely then you're welcome to come along. There are great indoor walls locally where you can learn the climbing basics.
Full membership fee is currently £25.00 per year and is due on the 1st February each year.
Full membership requires that you have attended 3 NMC meets, and that you have a proposer and seconder for your application from current NMC members. Your application can then be considered for approval at the next NMC committee meeting. You do not need to be a prospective member to apply for full membership if you meet these requirements. This all sounds very old fashioned and formal, but we need it to be able to offer members BMC insurance.
Prospective membership fee is currently £15.00 and is valid for 6 months from the date of receipt of payment. The reduced price prospective membership allows people to see whether the club offers what they are looking for. It is also a minimum requirement if you want to climb with the club on the winter indoors meets (due to third party insurance requirements.)
Prospective members can upgrade to full membership at any time, provided they meet the full membership requirements. Upgrade fee is £10.00 if upgrading during the 6 months, or £25.00 if upgrading after the 6 months has expired.
If you've still got questions, or you've read it all and want to know more then get in touch with our Membership Secretary via our contact page. There's a lot of info on other areas of this site to help you find out more about this club.
Our membership application form is available from our Downloads section and should be sent to the Membership Secretary along with payment (address is on the forms). Cheques should be made payable to Northumbrian Mountaineering Club.
