Bowderstone & Hermitage door locks 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Hut Door locks

The Bowderstone cottage and the Hermitage have had new electronic lock systems fitted, this means that all the new members who have been after a key for the past 6 months or so can now have their own key, which takes the form of a plastic tag, a bit larger than a 10 pence piece this will open the door to both huts. Full members can obtained a tag from the secretary by supplying a £10 refundable deposit.

For members who have the existing metal keys, these will continue to open the door, although the plan is to change these barrels in January 2009. So you have been warned, it is up to you to present you existing key in exchange for a new tag free of charge.

Any member who does not re-new their membership will have their tag number deleted from the door system, or they can claim their deposit back on return of the tag to the secretary. If you mislay or loose your tag please inform the Secretary are myself then the tag can also be removed from the system as above.

Now that the Wednesday meet is at Burnside, if you let me know when you are going to be there, either Caroline or myself with be able to hand over a door tag in exchange for either a deposit of a metal key. Please get in touch then I can change the barrel on the hut doors.

My contact details in the hand book are correct.

Hut Co-ordinator

Neil,
I should be at Burnside this coming Wednesday. Could I swap my metal keys with a plastic tag, please?
Cheers.

Not bad, Neil, not bad. I noticed in the October QM that the new keys were available but it must have been 4,5 maybe 6 months ago that the job was completed?? Still, I'll give you credit, you started this thread in the first place

One question tho'. The old keys actually cost something like £10.50 each and that was always given as the justification for the "deposit" of £10.00 members were asked for; just to roughly balance the books. The new keys cost £2.50-£3.50 each and the "deposit" is still £10.00 ...what gives??

The decisions regarding the Key distribution and deposit where taken at the committee meetings, I am not getting into a discussion over the detail of these decisions here.
Would you like to exchange your key for an electronic fob or not?

Ah, OK, thanks, at least I know now.

One last thing, I presume that would have been the general committee rather than the hut sub-committee (of which I am a member) since, as far as I am aware the hut sub-committee has not been made aware of this? Maybe the hut sub-committee is no longer needed and has been quietly disbanded and this is my wake-up call?? Please advise.

Not just yet thanks, that wasn't the point of my post (I'd have mentioned it if it was) but its good to know that these keys are available just now and, of course, I know who to contact as and when I have a need.

That's interesting. The plastic costs 2-3 quid and we get charged for tenner. Is there a customer or member service desk I can query?
