2. Tickets to talk by Dave McLeod, the "New Traditionalist", September 7th
Introduction to Leading Course
Coming soon to a venue near you (this Friday in fact) from the man who
recently had "the scariest day of my [his] life"
"'ll be showing images
and video of recent climbs To Hell and Back E10 on Cairngorm, Ring of Steall 8c+
and other climbs and projects. I'll talk a lot about my motivation for climbing
and especially for doing dangerous climbs.
Venue: Percy Hedley School,
Hampeth Lodge, Station Road, Forest Hall, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE12 8YY. Time:
7pm (There will be a climbing display by the club courtesy of RockIt Mobile
Climbing wall at 6.30pm, presentations 8.15pm). Tickets: £7.50 (Concessions £5)
Available from Wildtrak and Sunderland Wall. Or phone Jane Newman (01833 627120)
or Mary Walton (01388 662377) to reserve tickets in advance"
3. "Learn to Lead" course, September 9th
As I mentioned before, the second "Introduction to Leading" course that
Richard Pow pulled together was over-subscribed and Richard is organising
the second of these to run this coming Sunday 9th September. There's every
chance this is over-subscribed as well but there's no harm in dropping Richard
an e-mail if you're interested

If this course is full then be the first on the list for the next one!!
(Gawd, what have we started? ;-)
4. Club Dinner Re-arranged.
Following postponement of the club dinner due to the small number bookings,
the revised date is 13th October. The Bowderstone hut is reserved for members
that weekend. The dinner will be at the Borrowdale Hotel as usual where the 6
course table d'hote menu is £24.45 per person.
Bookings to Peter
Bennett. e-mail

5. Quarterly Magazine (QM) Articles Wanted
Pete Flegg puts a lot of effort into the QM and the next edition is due
by the end of September. Anyone with any articles should get them to him as soon
as possible -

6. NMC Under-18 Policy
After a lot of work by various members of the Committee trying to come
to a conclusion that get's the best for everyone, the club has now agreed and
published an "Under-18's". The gist of the policy is :
In case
(b), the parent of the child should have a proper understanding of
the
activities to be undertaken.
A declaration to that effect signed by both the
member
and the
parent should be lodged with the club secretary before the child attends
a club
meet. In the event that more than one club member is to act in loco
parentis
for the
same child, separate forms should be submitted for each member.
The full policy is on two pages - one is the info, the other the form. Anyone
who is interested can download it from >>
this page << on the club's web site.
7. Costa Blanca Feb '08
Still in the early stages. If anyone has any suggestions/questions is
interested then please get in touch.
8. The Boring Bit at the End - The AGM - Is It Your
Club?
The club's AGM isn't for months yet, isn't it?
Anyway, I'm not
interested
The club's AGM is in January. Right now people are making decisions about
whether to stand-down and, at the moment, there are two current members standing
down at the turn of the year. Others are considering standing for
re-election.
- The club's committee is following the club rules by "nominating" members
for vacant positions.
- There is always the option for additional nominations
to be made at the AGM.
- In fact every year there are quite a
few positions that are vacant, it's just that in some years these are
uncontested.
Interested? Got a few ideas and want to take your club forward?
Get in touch with Peter Bennett, get in touch with Malcolm Rowe or get in
touch with me - *now* please ;-)
Happy grimping!!
Steve
