2. Introduction to Leading Course
The first "Introduction to Leading" course that Richard Pow pulled together was over-subscribed. Richard is now organising the second of these to run on Sunday 9th September.
Please note this is not the second-stage of the first course that ran in July, it's the same as the July course. apologies if I confused thing a week or so ago.
3. Yorkshire Limestone camping
Peter Bennett is meet leader for this and has confirmed that 5 tent pitches have been booked on the Riverside Campsite in Malham for the Friday and Saturday nights. They will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Additional places may be booked depending on availability at the site (which was fully booked this time last year) so if you are interested do not leave it too late to contact Peter on 01670 515 263
4. F ree tickets to talk by Dave McLeod, the "New Traditionalist" : 7th September, Percy Hedley School, South Shields
As mentioned before this "raffle" is running. The winner will be chosen at random (using the random number generator at http://random.org )
If you're interested drop Ben a line immediately on

5. Club Meet - Kalymnos September '07
The details for the club meet to Kalymnos in September have been finalised: Sam Judson (

)
is organising it for 15th - 22nd September, flying from Newcastle.
6. Winter Meets '07 - '08 / UPDATE
as mentioned before, these meets will be formalised by the Committee at the August committee meeting (Aug 28th) and published in the September QM.
At present the responses have been as follows:
From the meet leaders from last year:
Bryn Roberts; yes; Black Rock is booking up fast
Martin Cooper; yes but also happy to let someone else organise a meet
Malcolm Rowe; yes but also happy to let someone else organise a meet
Jon Trafford, Tim Catterall; no feedback yet.
Adrian Heath has suggested he might be interested in organising a winter bivvying meet.
Martin has suggested that there might be the possibility of a new venue; a hut in Aviemore.
If anyone else is interested in organising a winter meet then please get in touch so that the Committee can finalise everything.
7. Three Letter Abbreviation, scripted to strike fear into the hearts of mere mortals: AGM
The "S" word appears in here for the first time this year. No, not "Summer" but "September" - as I typed it in for the next two months meets I wondered where the time has gone. Soon we'll be inside on Wednesdays, well soon enough anyway, doesn't time fly when you're having fun?
Anyhoo, the only reason I'm mentioning it now is thinking about how quickly time passes. The club's AGM (Annual General Meeting) is always held toward the end of January, the actual date will be published when it's been formalised. Mention of the AGM, not just this club but any club seems to send people to dark corners of the room, etc., but there's no need!! (no, I don't get paid for saying that ;-)
Reasons to be cheerful (name that song) :
1.) Election and re-election of committee members
2.) Change important things about the way the club works.
1.) The committee is always looking for people who're interested in the club and want to get more involved.
Q. Who can get involved?
A. Anyone at all who is interested - there is nothing that says you need to have been in the club for "x" years.
Q. So what is involved if you get "more involved"?
A. Well, not a lot really - that's not to say there aren't some important things going on for all of our members: for example a.) access issues, b.) under 18's and membership - this last one has taken a lot of time to get right and it has changed over time so hat's off to those people heavily involved in sorting that one out. When I say "not a lot" I mean things like there are meetings every 5-6 weeks (currently with free tea and biscuits courtesy of Peter's patient wife). See the published/agreed minutes for topics discussed.
Cheors,
Steve
