Gives an insight into the extraction and use of the world famous Westmorland Green Slate. Open all year. Tours of the mine cost £7 per person and take place at 10.30 am, 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm and more frequently at busy times. Special rates for families and parties. There is also a shop selling slate products.

A purpose built museum dating from 1897 that tells the story of Keswick and surrounding area. Includes an excellent display of crystals and minerals, a model of the Lake District and information on the Lakeland Poets, the mining industry, tourism and recreation on the fells. Open Tuesday to Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm and late on Thursday until 7pm. Open Bank Holidays from 10 am to 4pm up to the end of October.
